The rich manufacturing history of steel sheet piling spans more than a century. Technology advancements in the shape, material grade, interlock design and location have all attributed to civil works advancement of piling in construction. In spite of that, the product was virtually limited to temporary and permanent marine structures for most of that time. That is until producers and vendors began to proactively market the features and benefits of piling.
In the last twenty five years, manufacturers and their partners have invested significant time and capitol to research the untapped capabilities of steel piling in the unconventional applications. As a result, steel sheet piles have gained wide acceptance as a versatile geostructural element for permanent applications such as highway/bridge/transportation structures, below grade parking foundations, and environmental containment. Proven to be a cost effective alternative, steel sheet piles can provide time and material savings over conventional insitu/concrete systems.
