Retaining Wall Sheet Piling Construction Parking Garage Site Thyssenkrupp Headquarters Essen
Construction work on the ThyssenKupp Quarter in Essen got underway on June, 2007, with the symbolic ground-breaking by the Executive Board Chairman of ThyssenKupp AG, Dr. Ing Schulz. The roughly 21 hectare site is located to the west of the federal highway B224 on the new Berthold Beitz Boulebard.
In the course of this project, a retaining wall of anchored Larssen steel pile profiles has been installed. This is necessary to stabilize the ground in the long term because of the up to 10.3 m variation in terrain levels. A multi-story parking garage with roughly 850 stalls has now been built in front of the wall of sheet piling. The design of the roughly 320 m long wall of sheet piling got underway in the summer of 2007. The design services provided by API engineers were supported by staff in our own Technical Office with the calculation of the static loads, pile-driving plans and execution instructions. After the bidding procedure and award of the contract by the cliente ThyssenKrupp Real Estate, work commenced in February 2008.
