Steel Pipe, understanding the basics to buy
The most important thing to do is determining the grade of steel, as a first step to Buying pipe. Having this clear provides a basis for additional questions to narrow down the best possible product.
We have developed a Pipe Size Chart, an on-line tool to help first time buyers, this is a resource to choose the size of pipe they need. Also we have a Pipe Weight per Foot Calculator ahother free tool.
Here’s a quick checklist of what we will need to correctly quote the best pipe for your specific project.
- Grade of Steel
- Size of Pipe
- Seamless or Welded
- Any special pipe end requirements?
Pipe is measured by the length, nominal inner diameter (ID) and pipe wall thickness (Schedule – Sch). It’s important to note that pipe sizes follow an industry standard, so the sizing is the same regardless of grade. Please access our pipe chart library for specific details.
